Police Renew Appeal for Witnesses Following Fatal Sholing Collision

Police have re-issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal collision in Sholing last month which claimed the life of a 90-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to Butts Road at 7.27am on 21 January after Arthur Daish, 90, of Southampton, was found in the road with serious injuries near the junction with Crest Way.

Mr Daish was taken to hospital for treatment but later died as a result of his injuries.

Officers believe two vehicles may have been involved in the collision: a black Skoda Kamiq travelling towards Portsmouth Road and a light blue car travelling towards Bursledon Road.

Investigators are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a black car believed to have been travelling behind the Skoda at the time of the collision. Police say the driver may have key information that could assist their enquiries and are urging them to come forward.

As part of the investigation, officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have arrested two people. A 36-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after a road accident.

A 73-year-old woman from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after a road accident.

Both have been released on bail until 21 April while enquiries continue.
