Fire Recovery Appeal Launched to Support Staff and Patients at Southampton General Hospital
A fire in the West Wing of Southampton General Hospital has had a significant impact on patients, services, and staff, prompting the launch of a Fire Recovery Appeal to provide immediate and ongoing support.
Following the incident on 1 February, many hospital teams have been required to work in unfamiliar environments while supporting patients who were relocated at short notice. Staff continue to work under immense pressure to ensure services are delivered safely and effectively.
Southampton Hospitals Charity UK has committed £12,500 in immediate funding to help those affected. This initial support is being used to provide wellbeing resources for staff working in challenging circumstances, as well as essential items for patients who are temporarily unable to access their personal belongings.
The charity says this funding marks Phase 1 of its Fire Recovery Appeal, focused on meeting the most urgent needs of patients and staff in the aftermath of the incident. Further support may be required as services continue to recover.
A spokesperson for Southampton Hospitals Charity UK said the appeal will allow the charity to respond quickly and practically as needs arise, ensuring support is available when it is most needed across University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
Members of the public who wish to support the hospital community during this time are encouraged to donate. Donations of any size will help provide vital assistance to both patients and staff affected by the fire.
