Police Seek Witnesses After Attempted ATM Theft in Portswood

Police are appealing to the public for information following an attempted theft targeting a cash machine outside the Waitrose store in Portswood during the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called to the scene at around 4:15am on 19 August, after reports of a theft in progress. According to police, three masked individuals were attempting to force open an ATM using a van when they were interrupted.

All three suspects, described as wearing balaclavas, fled the scene on foot upon the arrival of police. Fortunately, no money was taken from the cash machine.

The vehicle used in the attempted theft, a white Citroën Relay van, had previously been reported stolen. Investigators believe it may have been parked or hidden somewhere between 10 August and the early hours of 19 August.

Police are now urging members of the public to come forward with any information or sightings of the vehicle during that time.

• A dark blue/black solid design across the rear doors and both sides
• A faded logo reading ‘GREENER’, possibly with a house icon on the passenger-side sliding door
• A website printed on the dark panel: ‘orlo.uk
• Noticeable rear wheel arch damage: crumpled bodywork and a missing black side bumper

The scene outside Waitrose remains cordoned off as forensic teams continue to examine the area. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding buildings.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this van in the lead-up to the incident or who has any information that could assist with the investigation. Even seemingly minor details could prove crucial.
