Man charged following rape investigation in Southampton

A man has been charged in connection with a rape reported in Southampton, police have confirmed.

Officers received a report that a 19-year-old woman was raped at an address in the Polygon area of the city on Thursday 5 February. The woman is currently being supported by police.

Following an investigation, Viaan Surendranathan, 21, of Sidar Road, Southampton, has been charged with rape, possession of a Class A controlled drug, and administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower in order to allow sexual activity.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 9 February.
