Police seize drugs and £11,000 in cash after vehicle stop in Eastleigh

A routine police response to a road traffic collision in Eastleigh led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of drug supply offences and the seizure of more than £11,000 in cash.

On Saturday 20 December, officers from Totton Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were finishing work at a collision scene when their attention was drawn to a passing vehicle. Officers followed the car and carried out a stop, during which they detected a strong smell of cannabis.

The driver’s explanation raised concerns, and he was detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of Class B drugs, believed to be cannabis.

A 34-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

Following the arrest, RPU officers worked alongside PD Lacey and her handler from the Dog Section, as well as officers from Southampton District Policing Team. A search was carried out at the suspect’s address under Section 18 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

During the search, PD Lacey located a hidden stash of cash concealed inside a sound system speaker. Officers also seized further drugs from the address.

In total, more than £11,000 in cash and additional quantities of drugs were recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.

This arrest highlights the importance of proactive police patrols and effective teamwork in disrupting drug-related criminal activity and keeping communities safe.
