Two Southampton Men Arrested After Officers Seize Suspected Stolen Copper Wiring in Romsey
Two men have been arrested in Romsey after officers on patrol carried out a proactive stop in the early hours of 25 November.
At around 12.15am, officers stopped a Land Rover Freelander travelling on the A3090. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered a crowbar and three large reels of industrial copper wiring.
A 21 year old man and a 27 year old man, both from Southampton, were arrested on suspicion of theft and going equipped for theft. They have since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
Police believe the copper wiring may have been stolen and are working to identify where it originated.
Officers are urging businesses in the area to check their premises. Anyone who believes they may have had copper cabling stolen—particularly if it has not yet been reported—is asked to contact police.
Guidance on recognising and preventing this type of theft is available on the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.
