Southampton Police Make Series of Arrests as Festive Season Begins

Southampton’s City Centre Unit has reported a surge of enforcement activity over a three-day period as officers prepared for the Christmas light switch-on and participated in Safer Business Action Week. The unit described the operation as a determined effort to “relentlessly pursue criminals,” highlighting a series of arrests ranging from shoplifting to assault.

12 November: Multiple Arrests and High-Value Theft Case

The unit said officers had been “busy these past few days,” leading to several significant interventions.
One woman was arrested for “multiple shopliftings” and was also found to be wanted on a failure-to-appear warrant. Another woman was detained for “breaching court conditions.”

A major joint operation with Wiltshire Police resulted in the arrest of a man linked to two jewellery thefts worth approximately £6,000. Officers added that combined investigative work “boosted this to an approx. total of £14,500.” The man has since been remanded in prison awaiting his Crown Court date.

Police also issued three dispersal orders to individuals who had come into the city “to partake in anti-social behaviour.”

13 November: Shoplifting Spree Stopped

The following day saw heightened activity targeting offenders in the City Centre.

Two men who had begun their day “going on a shoplifting spree” were intercepted by a combination of District Policing Team and City Centre Unit officers. Both were taken to custody, where they remained ahead of their court hearings.

Officers also arrested three additional men for “three separate shopliftings,” all of whom were remanded to court.

A further arrest involved a man linked to a high-value theft who has now received a five-month prison sentence. The unit noted, “We have decided his Christmas plans too,” referring to his time in HMP.

14 November: More Arrests and Court Warrants Executed

The final day of the sweep continued the momentum.

One man was arrested for shoplifting, while another was taken into custody after an outstanding fail-to-appear warrant was discovered. Officers also detained a man for breaching a Section 35 dispersal notice after causing anti-social behaviour in the city. A separate arrest was made following a “series of assaults,” during which the suspect was further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.

Police Promise Continued High Visibility

Summing up the three days, officers said: “As you can see from the above, we continue to relentlessly pursue criminals and this will not change.” They added that residents should expect “a heightened presence over the Christmas period” and encouraged members of the public to “feel free to stop and say hello.”

The City Centre Unit ended their statement with a seasonal message: “Stay safe and enjoy the festive season!”
