Police Seize Electric Motorbike and Arrest Rider in Coxford Drugs and Driving Offences
Officers from the Shirley and Freemantle Neighbourhood Policing Team have seized an illegal electric motorbike and arrested its rider following an incident in the Coxford area of Southampton on Friday evening.
Police say the rider of a Surron electric motorbike attempted to flee from officers but was safely tackled off the vehicle and detained. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs and driving while over the prescribed limit for cannabis.
The motorbike, which was uninsured and being used illegally, was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. Officers confirmed that the vehicle will be crushed as a result of its unlawful use.
Motorcycle-related anti-social behaviour has been an ongoing issue in the Coxford area, and police say they are continuing to take firm action against those involved.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“Your local bobby is actively monitoring known hotspots and working to identify those responsible. We’re committed to keeping our streets safe and will take firm action against illegal and dangerous riding.”
Residents are being encouraged to continue reporting information about illegal riding or anti-social behaviour through 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
