Man Arrested Following Reported Sexual Assault on Teenage Girl in Winchester
A 43 year old man has been arrested in connection with a reported sexual assault involving a teenage girl in Winchester city centre, police confirmed today.
The arrest follows an appeal issued by Hampshire Constabulary on Friday for help identifying a man linked to an incident at the Winchester bus station, located off The Broadway. The reported incident occurred between 7pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday, 9 September.
According to police, a 15 year old girl, who was wearing her school uniform, was sitting on a bench at the station when she was approached by a man. He reportedly engaged her in conversation, made inappropriate comments, and kissed her hand twice, making the girl feel uncomfortable.
Following the public appeal, officers were able to identify and locate a suspect. The man, who is from Winchester, was arrested on the evening of Saturday, 4 October on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
Police have thanked members of the public for their assistance in the investigation.
