Arrest made in Shirley Tesco assault; police call for public information

Police are investigating a sexual assault at a Tesco Express in Shirley after a woman reported being inappropriately touched inside the store.

The incident occurred at around 8.30pm on 22 August at the Tesco Express on Shirley Road, when a woman in her 20s said a man made sexual comments to her before touching her breasts.

Officers have now issued a description of the man following the report. He is described as mixed race, around 5ft 9ins tall, of average build, and wearing a blue coat, cream trousers, and sliders with no socks. He was said to have a short grey-and-black beard, very short curly grey hair, and a cut or sore next to his left nostril.

As part of the investigation, police have arrested a 44 year old man from Southampton on suspicion of sexual assault. He has been bailed until 29 December while further enquiries continue.
