Southampton City Council Relaunches Warm Welcome Initiative for Winter 2025
Southampton City Council has announced the return of its Warm Welcome initiative for winter 2025, in partnership with library teams across the city and the Friends of Library groups. The scheme officially relaunched on Monday 3 November 2025, offering residents warm, safe spaces and a packed programme of free community activities throughout the colder months.
As part of the nationwide Warm Spaces initiative, all of Southampton’s libraries have once again registered as warm spaces, providing not only a welcoming environment but also opportunities for social connection and support.
This winter, libraries across the city will host over 300 activities for adults, families, and children. Visitors can take part in sessions ranging from arts and crafts, early years activities, and reading groups to games clubs, with no pre-booking required. Each activity will also include the chance to enjoy a free hot drink and snack.
Councillor Alex Winning, Leader of Southampton City Council, said he was pleased to see the initiative return, highlighting its ongoing success in supporting residents through the winter months.
“I am delighted to see the return of The Warm Welcome initiative. It has proven to help people in Southampton and beyond, year after year. The winter months can be a struggle for many, and this initiative is great for tackling loneliness and providing comfort.
“Our welcoming Libraries teams and volunteers work hard to ensure that our libraries are warm, safe spaces with plenty to do for people of all ages. They can also help people navigate the various support available during the winter period. Support will vary from finding jobs, maintaining healthy homes and tech support.
“Activities will include games and reading clubs as well as arts and crafts sessions and so much more. There is something for everyone and I urge everyone to get involved.”
The council hopes that the initiative will continue to bring people together, offering practical help and a sense of community during the colder months.
Residents can find out more about the Warm Welcome Initiative via the Southampton City Council website or by visiting their local library to view the full list of upcoming activities and events.
