Update Issued as Southampton General Hospital Continues Recovery After Fire
University Hospital Southampton remains on major incident status as it continues its response to a fire that broke out in the west wing of Southampton General Hospital on Sunday morning (1 February).
Hospital leaders confirmed that the Emergency Department has now reopened and a limited amount of elective surgery has resumed, with priority being given to the most urgent cases. The recovery has been made possible through what the trust described as the dedication and hard work of its staff.
The majority of outpatient appointments are continuing as planned, and patients are being advised to attend their appointments unless they have been contacted directly by the hospital.
Work is also ongoing to reunite patients who were moved during the incident with their personal belongings. Patients and families are being asked to contact the Patient and Family Support Hub on 0800 484 0135 to arrange collection.
University Hospital Southampton said further updates will be published on its website as the situation continues to develop.
