Tribute paid to ‘devoted family man’ Nigel Key as Totton murder investigation continues
A touching tribute has been paid to a “devoted family man” whose death is at the centre of a murder investigation in Totton.
Police were called at around 1.32pm on Thursday, 16 October, following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted at an address in Matley Gardens.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, 51 year old Nigel Key was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement released through Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, Mr Key’s family said:
“Nigel was a devoted family man loved by family and friends. He was always friendly, generous, neighbourly and helpful to everyone. A skilled engineer respected by his peers. He will always be remembered.”
A 31 year old man from Totton was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital for medical treatment. Following an assessment by medical professionals in custody, he has now been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Police say their investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with concerns or information to speak to one of their uniformed Neighbourhood Policing Team patrols in the area.
