Totton Man Jailed for Burglary, Theft and Assault
A Totton man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary, theft, and assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH).
Daniel Ian Victor Cole, 46, of Ringwood Road, appeared at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, 5 September, where he was handed the custodial sentence following a string of offences committed in September and October 2024.
The court heard that on Wednesday 4 September, Cole broke into a property on Charnwood Close, Totton, stealing a satellite navigation system and an Amazon Fire tablet.
Two weeks later, on Wednesday 18 September, he returned to criminal activity, this time stealing a PlayStation 5 controller from an address on Shakespeare Drive, Totton.
His offending escalated in early October when, on 5 October, Cole assaulted a woman at a property on St Mary Street, Southampton. The victim sustained injuries consistent with ABH.
Following the sentencing, Trainee Detective Constable Ryan Mitchell, who led the investigation, praised the courage of the victims and emphasised the seriousness of Cole’s crimes.
“These crimes, for which Daniel has now ,been imprisoned, are extremely intrusive and can have untold, long-lasting impacts on victims,” said T/DC Mitchell. “Nobody should ever have to feel unsafe in their own home, once behind closed doors. In fact, it should be the safest place we can ever be.
“I am pleased that we are now in a position whereby Cole will be behind bars for a significant period of time and can reflect on his actions, and the consequences of those actions.
“While I know the memories of these incidents will remain with the victims, I truly hope that this result provides them with some reassurance and comfort, knowing that Cole can no longer harm anyone else.
“I’d like to place on record my thanks to all of them for their support throughout our investigation. We wouldn’t have achieved this outcome without their determination and courage.”
He added:
“We treat seriously all reports made to us, as this case should again evidence, and we will always do what we can to secure justice against those seeking to cause harm in our local communities.
“This sentence should send out a strong message to would-be offenders. We will always do everything we can to find you, and we will then put you in front of the courts and you will have to face justice.
“Hampshire and the Isle of Wight remains a hostile place for criminals and we will always do what we can to ensure that you are caught and that you are held accountable for your actions.”
