Three teenage boys have been arrested as part of a police investigation into two business burglaries in Hythe.
Officers first arrested a 16-year-old boy from Hythe on Saturday, 7 March, on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of a Class B controlled drug, going equipped for theft, and burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal.
A 15-year-old boy from Holbury was also arrested the same day on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal. Both boys have since been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue.
A third suspect, a 16-year-old boy from Hythe, was arrested shortly before 6am today (Monday, 9 March). He was detained on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal and remains in police custody.
The arrests follow reports of two break-ins at business units on St John’s Street between 7pm on Thursday, 5 March, and 9.30am on Friday, 6 March.
During one incident, entry was forced through a smashed window and tools were stolen from inside the premises. In a second burglary, a door was forced open and a black Honda Gorilla motorbike along with tools were taken.
Police confirmed the stolen motorbike has since been recovered and returned to its owner.
Officers from the Waterside Neighbourhood Policing Team, District Policing Team and the Criminal Investigation Department were involved in the arrests and subsequent enquiries. Investigations remain ongoing.
