Suspect Arrested in Southampton After Attempted Burglary at Volkswagen Dealership
A 29 year old man has been arrested following an attempted burglary at Peter Cooper Volkswagen on Shirley Road late last night (24 November).
Police were called just before 11:15pm after a member of the public reported suspicious activity at the dealership. Officers, assisted by the dog unit, quickly arrived at the scene and identified a man acting suspiciously near a vehicle showing damage consistent with a ram raid.
Following a breath test and vehicle search, the man was taken into custody. He faces multiple charges, including:
• Burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal
• Driving without a valid licence
• Driving with alcohol above the legal limit
• Fraudulently evading duties or restrictions
• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Driving without third-party insurance
Police also discovered a large quantity of cigarettes, tobacco products, and cash inside the vehicle.
Thanks to the prompt call from a member of the public and the swift response of officers, no items were stolen from the dealership.
