Southampton Marks White Ribbon Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls
“We Speak Up” encourages residents to use their voices and challenge inappropriate behaviour.
Southampton City Council has marked White Ribbon Day, the start of the annual 16 Days of Action focused on ending violence against women and girls.
This year’s campaign, themed “We Speak Up”, encourages people to speak out against behaviours that may seem harmless but can lead to violence and abuse of women and girls. Examples include sexist jokes, catcalling, staring, and inappropriate comments.
White Ribbon Day is an opportunity for everyone to challenge behaviours that create a culture of disrespect and fear. By speaking up, we can make a real difference in preventing violence against women and girls.
Residents are being urged to make the White Ribbon Promise, committing to “never use, excuse, or remain silent about men’s violence against women.”
