Stolen Sweeper Recovered in Hedge End Field After Challenging Operation
A £56,000 sweeper stolen from Netley Abbey has been recovered following a determined effort by the Rural Crime Task Force.
The machine, which was taken in October 2025, was located in the Hedge End area concealed in a field behind waste material. Officers discovered the sweeper hidden from view in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.
A police liaison officer from Datatag attended the scene and assisted in formally identifying the machine, helping to confirm it as the stolen property.
The recovery operation proved challenging due to severe waterlogging and thick mud, which made accessing and removing the heavy equipment difficult. Despite the conditions, officers worked persistently to ensure the sweeper was successfully retrieved.
This recovery highlights the value of teamwork and specialist support in tackling rural and equipment theft.
