Southampton Residents Invited to Celebrate Loved Ones at Annual ‘Trees for Life’ Event
This community event invites families to plant trees in honour of births and loved ones remembered.
Southampton City Council has opened registration for its annual Trees for Life celebration, inviting residents to “come together and plant a tree to celebrate the life of a family member” on Saturday, 6 December.
The council describes the event as an opportunity for families to “mark the arrival of a new baby or celebrate the life of a loved one” who has passed away. Participants can plant a native tree free of charge and will receive a certificate signed by the Lord Mayor of Southampton.
The initiative has already led to thousands of trees being planted across the city, reflecting the council’s long-term commitment to protecting local green spaces. As part of its Green City Plan, the council aims to increase the city’s tree coverage by planting at least 5,000 trees by 2030.
Residents wishing to take part can register through the Southampton City Council website. The event is open to all, and families are encouraged to attend and take part in what has been described as a meaningful, community-focused celebration of life.
