Southampton Police Crack Down on Local Drug Activity
A 24 year old man has been charged following a significant drug seizure in the city.
On Wednesday, 20 August, police officers PC Pirr and PCSO Grybauskaite, while on bicycle patrol near the underpass on Ascupart Street, stopped a man they believed was acting suspiciously. During the stop, officers discovered around 100 wraps of Class A drugs nearby. A mobile phone and a sum of cash were also found on the man.
A subsequent search of his home led to the seizure of a further large quantity of cash and two additional mobile phones.
Waheed Safi, of Clovelly Road, Southampton, has been charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession of criminal property, and failing to provide a sample for a Class A drug test while in custody. He appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning and was remanded in custody ahead of a Crown Court hearing on 19 September.
Southampton police said they are aware of ongoing concerns in the community about anti-social behaviour and drug activity. In response, officers have increased patrols in affected areas and are working closely with the local authority to implement both immediate and long-term strategies to address the issues.
Police are urging residents to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour, saying community information is “vital in helping keep Southampton safe.”
