Registration Opens for ‘Trees for Life’ Community Planting Event

Residents are being invited to take part in this year’s Trees for Life event, a cherished community tradition that celebrates new life and honours the memory of loved ones through tree planting.

The initiative, run by Southampton City Council, offers families the opportunity to plant a native tree free of charge. Participants will also receive a certificate signed by the Lord Mayor of Southampton as a keepsake to mark the occasion.

The annual event encourages residents to come together and make a lasting contribution to the city’s natural environment. Trees can be planted to celebrate the birth of a new baby, to commemorate the life of someone who has passed away, or simply to help support Southampton’s growing green spaces.

So far, thousands of trees have been planted across the city as part of the council’s ongoing Green City Plan, which aims to increase Southampton’s tree coverage by at least 5,000 additional trees by 2030.

Trees for Life is a way for residents to celebrate, reflect, and contribute to a greener future. Each tree planted is a symbol of hope and connection — for families, the city, and the planet.

Families are encouraged to join in and take part in the upcoming planting day. The event promises to be a memorable experience for participants of all ages, helping to strengthen community ties while protecting the local environment.

Registration is now open via the Southampton City Council website, where the Trees for Life application form can be completed online.
Please note that the form cannot be saved and must be completed in one sitting.
