Police Urge Public to Surrender Illegal Knives Ahead of National Week of Action
Police are urging residents to check their homes for weapons that are illegal to possess in the UK — even if kept on private property — as part of the upcoming Sceptre week of action on knife crime, beginning Monday 17 November.
Authorities remind the public that several types of knives and weapons are banned outright. These include zombie knives, zombie-style knives, ninja swords, flick knives and disguised blades, such as those hidden inside everyday items like lipsticks, hairbrushes or mobile phones.
A spokesperson explained that anyone who finds themselves in possession of such items should dispose of them safely and anonymously. “If you find you are in possession of any of these then you can dispose of them safely and anonymously in one of our knife surrender bins,” they said. “These can be found at most of our police stations and located within the community during Sceptre, the knife crime week of action.”
Members of the public can also access further information about knife laws and surrender-bin locations through official police channels. “Find out more about the laws around knives and weapons as well as the locations of our surrender bins via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website,” the spokesperson stated.
Officers are also appealing for community support in tackling knife crime. “Report what you know about knife crime anonymously to Crimestoppers,” the statement added, reminding people to call 101 or use the police website for non-emergencies and to dial 999 immediately if a life-threatening situation occurs.
The force concluded its message with a reminder of the national campaign’s key message: #NeverChooseKnives.
