Man Charged with Immigration, Indecent and Public Order Offences in Southampton and Portsmouth
A 37 year old man has been charged with a series of offences, including immigration breaches, indecent exposure, assault, and public order offences, following police investigations in Southampton and Portsmouth.
Sukirthan Thangrasha, of New Road, Portsmouth, has been named as the individual facing charges. He is a foreign national who claims to be originally from Sri Lanka.
The charges relate to three separate incidents:
• On Friday 15 August, a 25-year-old man was assaulted on Highfield Lane in Southampton. The victim did not suffer serious injuries.
• On the same day, a man was reported to have indecently exposed himself in the same area.
• On Monday 15 September, a public order incident occurred at Kingston Cemetery, near New Road in Portsmouth. No injuries were reported.
Following these investigations, Thangrasha has been charged with the following offences:
• Common Assault, under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988
• Indecent Exposure, under Section 66 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003
• Public Order Offence, under Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986
• Illegal Entry into the United Kingdom, under Section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971
Thangrasha has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court later today (Friday 19 September).
Police have not released further details at this stage.
