Man Charged with Burglary and Theft in Southampton City Centre

A man has been charged in connection with two incidents of theft and burglary at shops in Southampton city centre.

David Anthony Thorn, 43, of Evenlode Road, Southampton, was arrested yesterday afternoon (18 September) as part of an investigation into offences reported over the summer.

The first incident took place on 8 July, when a man reportedly entered the Greggs bakery on Above Bar Street and took food without paying. A second report, received on 27 August, related to a burglary at Wendy’s, also on Above Bar Street, in which a cash box — later confirmed to be empty — was taken.

Following enquiries, Thorn was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of theft and one count of burglary.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Friday, 19 September).
