Police Seek to Identify Man Following Reported Sexual Assault Incident in Winchester
Hampshire Constabulary has released an image of a man they wish to speak with as part of an ongoing investigation into a reported sexual assault in Winchester city centre.
The incident occurred at the Winchester bus station, off The Broadway, between 7:00pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday, 9 September.
According to police, a 15 year old girl, who was wearing school uniform at the time, was sitting alone on a bench when she was approached by a man. He engaged her in conversation and made a number of inappropriate comments that caused her significant discomfort. During the exchange, the man is reported to have kissed her hand twice.
The girl was able to call a friend and arrange to meet nearby in order to remove herself from the situation. The incident was reported to police later that same day.
Hampshire Police have released the following description of the Suspect
The man is described as:
• White
• Aged between 35 and 45 years old
• Between 5ft 5in and 5ft 8in tall
• Of large build
• With short, dark stubbly hair and a bald patch on top
• Wearing a black hooded pullover, black McKenzie tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers
Police Appeal
Since the report was made, officers have been pursuing several lines of enquiry. They are now appealing to the public for help identifying a man captured on CCTV whom they believe may have information relevant to the investigation.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We are now releasing an image of a man we would like to speak to about this incident. If you know who this man is, or have any other information that you think may help our investigation, please get in touch.”
