Man Jailed for 40 Months for Chandler’s Ford Burglary
A man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison after admitting to a burglary in Chandler’s Ford.
Richard Martin, 50, of The Dell, Southampton, appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday (23 January) after previously pleading guilty on 17 December 2025 to one count of burglary dwelling and theft.
The court heard that on the night of 21 September 2025, around 11.30pm, the victims were in their kitchen on Baddesley Road when a man wearing a woollen hat pulled over his face entered the room and grabbed two mobile phones.
“One victim, a man in his 60s, challenged the intruder, who was later identified as Richard Martin,” the court was told. “Martin then kicked the victim before running out of the house.”
Following the incident, the victims reported the burglary to police. Investigators were able to track the stolen phones to Martin’s address, and enquiries revealed that a car registered to him had been seen traveling from Baddesley Road to his home. DNA evidence recovered from the property also matched Martin.
Appearing for sentencing, Martin was handed a 40-month prison term.
Detective Constable Steve Jakes, the officer in charge of the case, said:
“We should all be able to feel safe and secure in our own homes, and a stranger invading that space can have a lasting impact on victims. I hope this sentence sends a clear message that we will deal with these crimes robustly, and seek to bring offenders to justice. We will not tolerate this type of offending in our community.
“In this case, I would like to thank the victims for their quick thinking in tracking the phones. That line of enquiry assisted greatly in creating our case.
“I would urge anyone who is aware of or sees anything suspicious in our area that could be linked to a burglary to report it to us.”
