Identity Confirmed of Man Found Dead on Southampton Common

Southampton police have confirmed the identity of a man whose body was discovered on Southampton Common earlier this month.

Ernest Konrad Deputat, 45, from Southampton, was found on the afternoon of Wednesday, 8 October, in a wooded area near the wildlife reserve in the centre of the common, north of the Ornamental Lake and adjacent to Green Path.

His family have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers, as Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team continues its investigation into his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly, the senior investigating officer, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with Ernest’s family at this unimaginably difficult time. We will continue to support them. Our work also continues as we focus on determining Ernest’s final movements, so that we can achieve answers and justice for his family.”

Police are appealing for information or footage from Southampton Common and the surrounding area from Saturday, 6 September onwards. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 44250456238, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
