Emergency Rescues as Flooding Creates Dangerous Road Conditions

Emergency services have rescued several people from vehicles stranded in floodwater this morning as flooding continues to affect roads.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) issued a safety warning urging motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to take extra care when travelling. Crews attended multiple incidents involving vehicles becoming stuck in floodwater and requiring emergency assistance.

Fire service officials warned that flooded roads can be extremely hazardous, as conditions can change rapidly. Floodwater may be deeper or faster-moving than it appears and can conceal hidden dangers such as debris, open drains or damaged road surfaces.

Members of the public are being advised to avoid driving through floodwater, obey road closure signs and remain alert to changing conditions.

In an emergency, or if someone is seen in danger, people are urged to call 999 and provide clear details of the location and any injuries.

Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and are asking the public to prioritise safety while conditions remain challenging.
