Alexis Boon Confirmed as New Chief Constable for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary

Date: 24 June, 2025

Alexis Boon has been officially confirmed as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, following the approval of his appointment by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel today.

His selection was put forward earlier this month by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Donna Jones, who described Boon as “one of the most senior and experienced national and international counter terrorism leaders in the country.”

Speaking after the confirmation, PCC Jones said:

“I am delighted that Alexis will be the next Chief Constable of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, and I would like to take this moment to congratulate him.

The skill set he brings to this role will pay dividends to us here in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in our changing climate. I am very much looking forward to working closely with him to deliver on my Police and Crime Plan and to lead the force with strength, integrity, and commitment to providing an outstanding service to the 2.2 million people who live and work across our two counties.”

Boon brings with him over 25 years of policing experience. He began his career as a Constable with Surrey Police in 1998 before transferring to the Metropolitan Police, where he rose through the ranks and built a distinguished career in counter-terrorism and serious organised crime.

While at the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, Boon led strategic responses to threats linked to the Syrian conflict and was responsible for hundreds of counter-terrorism and national security operations both in the UK and abroad. Between 2017 and 2020, he directed the operational response to terrorist attacks in London and incidents overseas involving British nationals.

In 2021, he became temporary Commander for Central Specialist Crime, overseeing elite units including the Flying Squad. His most recent role was as Deputy Assistant Commissioner for local policing in London, leading over 20,000 officers and staff.

On his appointment, Boon said:

“I am honoured to have been chosen as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and look forward to working with Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones to keep our communities safe and deliver the best policing services we can.

We’ll do that by making sure we are constantly talking to and listening to our communities and actively responding to their needs. Transparency of our approach is key.”

He also paid tribute to the existing work of the force, praising the dedication of officers, staff, and volunteers and pledging to build on their efforts.

Alexis Boon is set to formally take up his new position in August 2025.
