£500,000 Fund Launched to Make Hampshire and Isle of Wight Roads Safer

A new £500,000 Emerging Needs Fund aimed at reducing road deaths and serious injuries has been launched by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Donna Jones.

The initiative responds to concerns from local residents about speeding and anti-social driving, which the Commissioner identifies as one of her top priorities. The fund will support community groups, organisations, and campaigners seeking to implement road safety projects or purchase equipment that contributes to safer roads.

“One person’s actions behind the wheel can have a devastating impact in a split second,” said Donna Jones. “This fund is about prevention, protection, and partnership.”

Funding Details

The Emerging Needs Fund is open to organisations operating in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Applicants can apply for up to £20,000 per project, or £8,000 specifically for Community Speedwatch initiatives. Funding must be spent by 31 March 2027, and only one application per organisation will be accepted in this funding round.

Eligible projects may include speed reduction schemes, road safety campaigns, and equipment to support Community Speedwatch groups. However, automatic Speedwatch cameras are not eligible, and applicants will be responsible for the storage, upkeep, and servicing of any equipment purchased.

Application Process

Organisations must first join the PCC’s Funding Network, which provides guidance on grant applications and promotes collaboration between partners. Applications are submitted online via the SUMs platform and must be completed in full, with all acronyms explained and supporting documents included.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 28 November 2025, at 3:00pm, with applicants being informed of the outcome by the end of February 2026.

To support applicants, the Commissioning Team will host two Microsoft Teams drop-in sessions:
• Tuesday 4 November – 2:00pm
• Wednesday 5 November – 09:30am
