Third Fire in Days Causes Significant Damage at Peartree Green
A fire that broke out at Peartree Green over the weekend has caused significant damage to the much-loved local nature reserve—marking the third fire in just a matter of days.
Councillor Eamonn Keogh, who regularly walks through Peartree Green, expressed concern over the growing number of incidents and praised the quick actions of local residents and emergency responders. The latest blaze, described as the most harmful of the recent fires, prompted a swift response from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters attending the scene warned that strong winds on the day could have turned the incident into a far more serious emergency, placing members of the public and fire crews at considerable risk. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control without reported injuries.
Cllr Keogh commended the professionalism of the fire service, stating:
“Peartree Green is part of my daily walk, and I know how distressing these fires can be for everyone who uses this local nature reserve for the right reasons. We all have a responsibility to protect, preserve, and promote our precious green spaces.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Local residents have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
Peartree Green, a designated local nature reserve, is a valued green space in Southampton, frequented by walkers, dog owners, and nature lovers alike.
As concern grows over the frequency of these fires, community members and officials alike are calling for increased efforts to safeguard the area from further harm.
