Teenager Sexually Assaulted in Bitterne Subway – Police Seek Witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 17 year old girl was sexually assaulted in the Bitterne area of Southampton.

The incident happened at around 1:10pm on Wednesday, 6 August, on Dean Road, near Bitterne Library.

According to Hampshire Constabulary, the teenager was approached by a man who asked her inappropriate questions before pulling her down a flight of stairs into the subway underpass. He then touched her inappropriately on the upper half of her body over her clothing.

The assault was interrupted when members of the public entered the underpass from the opposite side, prompting the suspect to run off.

Detectives are now urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time – particularly those who entered the subway – to come forward.

The suspect is described as being of South Asian appearance, around 5ft 4in tall, of skinny build, with black hair and a black beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt at the time of the incident.

Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area, including reviewing CCTV footage. They are also asking residents and motorists to check any relevant dashcam or Ring doorbell recordings from that time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 44250353572.
