Southampton General Hospital Fire: Latest Update on Major Incident Response
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust declared a major incident following a fire at Southampton General Hospital earlier today (1 February).
More than 200 patients were safely relocated to other areas within the hospital, where staff continue to provide care. The Trust emphasised that patient safety remains its top priority, and efforts are ongoing to move patients to appropriate wards and departments across the site.
A number of patients have been identified as fit for discharge, with families set to be contacted this afternoon to arrange collection.
The hospital has warned that phone lines are extremely busy and asked the public to avoid calling unless necessary, to allow staff to focus on the emergency response.
The Trust thanked both staff and the local community for their support and response during the incident.
