Southampton City Council Visits Refurbished St Mary’s Community Leisure Centre Ahead of Reopening

Councillors from Southampton City Council have visited St Mary’s Community Leisure Centre this week to view progress on its major refurbishment, as work continues towards a planned reopening in late spring.

The visit highlighted significant improvements to the building, including the installation of a new roof, as part of wider upgrades designed to modernise and futureproof the facility for years to come.

Once reopened, the centre will be managed by Testlands, which will deliver a broad programme of activities and services aimed at supporting the local community. Facilities will include a sports hall, fitness classes, community meeting spaces and youth development programmes.

In addition to its physical facilities, the refreshed centre will introduce new initiatives focused on mental health, social inclusion and life skills development. These programmes are intended to benefit residents of all ages, strengthening community connections and promoting wellbeing.

Council representatives were encouraged by the progress made so far and look forward to seeing the centre fully operational in the coming months.

The refurbished leisure centre is expected to reopen in late spring, providing a revitalised hub for sport, activity and community engagement in the heart of St Mary’s.
