Proactive Policing Week Sees Drugs Operation, Speed Checks and Community Engagement in Southampton

Neighbourhood policing teams in Southampton have reported a busy and proactive week of activity, with operations targeting drug use in the night-time economy, speeding concerns raised by residents, and continued community engagement.

Officers from the Bargate Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), working alongside colleagues from the City Centre Unit (CCU), carried out a joint drugs-dog operation in the city centre’s night-time economy.

During the operation, 17 stop searches were conducted, four of which resulted in positive findings. Police say the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the city remains safe for those enjoying a night out while deterring illegal activity.

In response to concerns from members of the public, officers also carried out a targeted speeding operation along Wilton Avenue. One driver was issued with a traffic ticket, while several others were given words of advice regarding their driving.

Police have confirmed they will continue to monitor the area and respond to issues raised by the community.

Community engagement also remained a priority this week, with officers hosting a beat surgery in Holyrood. The session provided residents, business owners and visitors with the opportunity to discuss local concerns, crime prevention advice and neighbourhood priorities directly with officers.

In addition to operational work, officers took part in training focused on the use of police drones. The technology can assist with searching for missing people, capturing evidential footage and improving situational awareness at incidents. Police say drones are becoming an increasingly valuable tool in modern policing.

Bargate and CCU neighbourhood teams say they remain committed to maintaining visibility across the city and working proactively to keep Southampton’s communities safe.
