Police Operation Delivers Major Blow to Drug Networks in Thornhill and East of City

A large-scale police operation carried out yesterday in Thornhill and the east of the city has led to a series of arrests and significant disruptions to suspected drug lines and associated criminal activity.

The coordinated effort — a joint initiative between local police and the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team — involved both plain-clothed and uniformed officers on foot, bicycles, and in vehicles. Authorities describe the operation as “high-impact” and “tactically executed,” with officers deploying swift interventions and strategic pursuit methods across the area.

Key Arrests and Results

According to police, the operation led to multiple arrests:
• Two individuals were arrested following a pursuit that concluded in the West End. The driver was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving.
• Two people were arrested and later charged and remanded on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.
• Another individual was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, assault, and possession of a firearm.
• A separate arrest was made for drug driving, and another for being concerned in the supply of drugs.
• One suspect was stopped and reported for two counts of theft, as well as being wanted for two offences of Making Off Without Payment.
• Additional arrests included one individual wanted on a recall to prison, and another on a fail to appear warrant, who was taken directly to court.

Major Seizure and Tactical Intervention

One of the operation’s most notable successes came during the interception of a vehicle suspected to be involved in criminal activity. Officers deployed spike strips to stop the car, but the driver attempted to evade capture. The attempt was unsuccessful, as tactical officers managed to box in the vehicle.

Upon searching the car, officers seized an estimated £50,000 to £75,000 in cash, a pickaxe handle, and a large quantity of counterfeit cigarettes. The driver, who was reportedly already serving a suspended sentence, was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property and possession of offensive weapons.

Police described the incident as a “textbook takedown,” crediting the work of the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) for their role in the operation.

A police spokesperson praised the work of the teams involved, stating:

“Plain clothed and uniformed officers hit the ground in force – on foot, bikes and in cars – using sharp tactics, fast thinking and solid teamwork to disrupt, detain and deliver results.”

Proactive operations of this kind are sure to continue, with a particular focus on disrupting organised drug lines and violent crime.
