New Chief Constable Alexis Boon Takes Up Post in Hampshire and Isle of Wight

Alexis Boon has officially taken up his position as Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, bringing with him decades of experience in policing and a firm commitment to delivering exceptional local service.

Boon joins the force from the Metropolitan Police, where he held senior leadership positions across local policing, specialist crime, and counter-terrorism. Most recently, he was responsible for overseeing local policing across the whole of London.

Returning to his roots in a county force, Chief Constable Boon said his focus will be on strengthening relationships with communities and delivering policing that reflects their needs.

“I began my career in a county force, and I am delighted to be returning to my roots as Chief Constable here in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight,” he said.

“I joined policing because I firmly believe in public service. I know the exceptional officers, staff and volunteers here share my commitment to being there for our communities—especially when they need us most.

“I want us to focus on listening to and working with our communities to fight the crime that really matters to them and to keep people safe. Engaging with purpose will help us prevent crime and bring more criminals to justice.”

His appointment was confirmed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel earlier this summer. During the panel meeting, Boon outlined his priorities, including stronger partnership working, effective community problem-solving, and tackling violence against women and girls.

He also acknowledged the challenges and progress the force has made in recent years, including improvements highlighted in the latest PEEL (Police Effectiveness, Efficiency and Legitimacy) inspection report by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones welcomed Boon’s arrival and expressed confidence in his leadership.

“I’m delighted Alexis has begun his new role as Chief Constable,” Jones said.

“The constabulary has gone from strength to strength in recent years, as evidenced in the latest PEEL report. I’ve tasked Alexis with continuing those improvements.

“We are a large force but we are still under capacity for the amount of police officers we have for our communities.

“Recruitment is a major priority and I’ve urged Alexis to ensure the officers I have already funded are on our streets as quickly as possible.

“His wealth of experience running police operations for the Metropolitan Police will be a huge advantage to us. We are both clear that our aim, going forward, is to drive up charge rates, protect communities and get more bobbies on the beat.”

Chief Constable Boon’s first day comes at one of the busiest times of the year for the force, with summer policing demands at their peak. Both Boon and the Commissioner emphasised their shared goal: making Hampshire and the Isle of Wight the safest places to live, work, and visit.
