Major Drug Operation in Southampton Uncovers Cannabis Factory with Over 500 Plants

A major week-long crackdown on county lines drug activity across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has led to a significant breakthrough in Southampton, where police discovered and dismantled a large cannabis factory containing more than 500 plants.

The operation, part of a national County Lines Intensification Week, saw officers from across the region working in coordination to disrupt drug supply networks and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

In total, the week of action resulted in 57 arrests, the disruption of 11 active drug lines, and the seizure of large quantities of Class A and B drugs. In addition, 17 dangerous weapons were removed from the streets, contributing to what police are calling a major step forward in tackling organised crime in the region.

Locally, officers in Southampton carried out a series of proactive activities, including stop checks, safeguarding visits, and community engagement events aimed at raising awareness of county lines activity and reducing its impact on local communities.

“This operation is just one example of the ongoing, proactive work we’re doing alongside our partners to disrupt drug networks and protect vulnerable people from exploitation,” said a spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. “We are proud of these results, but this isn’t just a one week operation – it’s part of our ongoing commitment to tackling serious and organised crime in our communities across
Southampton.”

County lines operations involve drug dealers using mobile phones to sell drugs from urban areas into smaller towns and rural locations. These networks often exploit children and vulnerable adults to move and store drugs and money, frequently using violence and intimidation.

Police are encouraging anyone with concerns or information about drug-related activity to come forward, either by contacting them directly or through anonymous services such as Crimestoppers.

An ongoing fight – “We remain relentless in our efforts to keep our communities safe,” added the spokesperson.
