Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges Following Violent Assault in Southampton
A man has been charged with multiple serious offences following a violent incident in the Bevois Valley area of Southampton over the weekend.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that officers were called just after 12.45pm on Sunday, 3 August, to reports that several people had been threatened with a knife outside the Aldi store on Bevois Valley Road. Two individuals were reported to have sustained injuries during the incident.
Following an investigation, Azzedvie Mahmoudi, 46, of Cobbett Road, Southampton, has been charged with:
• Three counts of attempted murder
• One count of attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH)
• Three counts of threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place
• One count of possessing a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place
Mahmoudi has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday, 5 August).
Police have not disclosed the condition of the injured parties, but additional patrols have been deployed in the Bevois area to reassure the public. Officers from local neighbourhood policing teams are encouraging residents to come forward with any concerns.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the community. We understand there will be concern around this incident and officers will be conducting additional patrols in the area, please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
