Major Incident Declared After Fire at University Hospital Southampton
A major incident was declared at University Hospital Southampton this morning (1 February) following a fire at the site.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to Southampton General Hospital at around 5.30am. The fire has since been contained, and emergency services remain on scene.
Hospital officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. Patients in all affected areas were evacuated as a precaution and moved safely to other parts of the hospital.
Roads surrounding the hospital have been closed by emergency services, and members of the public have been asked to stay away. All planned outpatient appointments scheduled for today have been cancelled.
Parking is being made available on site for staff attending work.
The hospital’s Emergency Department is currently diverting patients to other facilities unless their condition is deemed life- or limb-threatening. Patients requiring medical attention are being advised to use alternative community services, including the Urgent Treatment Centre at Royal South Hants Hospital or services in Lymington.
University Hospital Southampton said it will continue to provide updates via its website and social media channels as the situation develops.
