Two Arrested Following Fatal Fail-to-Stop Collision in Sholing

Two people have been arrested following the death of a man after a fail-to-stop collision in Sholing.

Police were called at 7.27am on Wednesday, 21 January, to Butts Road near the junction with Crest Way, after a 90-year-old man from Southampton was found in the road with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.

Following enquiries, officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have arrested two people in connection with the incident.

A 36-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and failing to stop after a road accident. He remains in police custody.

A 73-year-old woman from Southampton has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident. She has been released on bail until 21 April.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and are urging anyone who was travelling along Butts Road at the time of the incident, or who may have dash cam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to identify the driver of a black car that was travelling along Butts Road towards Portsmouth Road. Police have said they no longer believe the vehicle was involved in the collision, but believe the driver may have witnessed the incident and could have vital information.
