Southampton man jailed for non-recent sexual offences against a child
A Southampton man has been jailed after being found guilty of non-recent sexual offences against a young girl.
Levent Joshua Cetin, 27, of New Road, Southampton, was convicted of two counts of rape of a girl under 13 and one count of sexual assault following a trial at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, 12 September.
He was sentenced at the same court on Friday, 24 October, to two years and six months in prison.
The court heard that the offences took place between 2011 and 2017 in the Romsey area, involving a girl known to Cetin. The incidents were reported to police in March 2021, prompting a detailed investigation.
At sentencing, Cetin was also made subject to a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order for life, and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Following the hearing, Detective Constable Iain Howard praised the victim for her courage throughout the process.
“The victim in this case has had to live with the memory of Cetin’s awful offending for some time.
“I would like to commend her for the bravery and patience she has shown through the investigation and court process.
“We want to encourage anyone who has been affected by child sexual abuse to come forward, regardless of when the offence took place.
“You can contact police on 101, and speak to an officer in confidence.
“We also recognise that not everyone has the confidence to talk to police about what they have experienced. There are other support services available, which means you will be in control of who you talk to and what help you can get.”
Police are urging anyone affected by child sexual abuse to seek support.
