Man charged with 23 shoplifting offences after Waterside police investigation

A man has been charged with 23 shoplifting offences following an investigation by the Waterside neighbourhood policing team.

The charges relate to incidents reported between 12 January and 13 February at stores in Hythe, Holbury and Blackfield. It was reported that nearly £1,200 worth of items were stolen during the month-long period.

Police say that on several occasions the man entered the same store multiple times in a single day to steal goods.

As part of their enquiries, officers attended the Tesco Express stores in Langdown Lawn, Hythe, and Hampton Lane, Blackfield, as well as the Co-op store in Long Lane, Holbury, where they took statements and secured CCTV footage.

Following his arrest on Monday evening, Daniel Laville, 25, of Tormead, Hythe, was charged with 23 counts of shoplifting.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on 18 February.
