‘Larger Than Life’ Simon Andrews Remembered After Fatal Collision in Bishops Waltham
A heartfelt tribute has been paid to a well-known local man who died following a fatal road collision in Bishops Waltham last week.
Simon Andrews, aged 64 and from Bishops Waltham, was pronounced dead at the scene after a serious crash on Thursday 14 August. Police were called to the B2177 Winchester Road at 2:12pm following reports of a collision involving a blue Land Rover Discovery and a red Ducati motorcycle.
Mr Andrews, who was riding the motorcycle, died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.
In a statement released by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Simon Andrews’ family paid tribute to him, describing him as a “larger than life” figure who was well-known in the local musical community.
“It’s with very broken hearts that we are sharing this devastating news that our beloved Simon has died,” the family said. “The irony that he died doing one of the things he loved. Our family has been totally shaken, and we know as a musical community you will also be shaken to the core.”
Known as an entertainer and a passionate biker, Mr Andrews was remembered for his bold personality and dedication to those he cared about.
“He was full of life — the mad fool on top of anything he could climb to sing to you all,” the statement continued. “The entertainer, the biker, the snowflake hater, but he was also our Dad, our Grandad, a devoted husband and brother.”
“Simon was at heart a country man, his love of walks, his dogs, buildings, he was an engineer, as he said so often. His travels to America, one of the most amazing trips he recently enjoyed with Jackie, memories to hold close.
“If he was your mate, you definitely knew it. He would bend over backwards to help, but if you got on the wrong side, you knew about it too,” his family said.
The statement concluded with a powerful message: “To our wonderful Simon — larger than life, always and forever in our hearts. He truly is Somethin’ Else.”
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who may have seen the incident or has relevant dash cam footage and has not yet spoken to officers is urged to call 101, quoting reference 44250366840.
