Dispersal Order Issued in Portswood Ahead of Planned Protests

A dispersal order has been put in place across parts of Portswood this evening (12 December) as police prepare for protests on Highfield Lane.

The order, authorised by the local policing team, will run from 3:59pm until 11:59pm and gives officers the power to instruct anyone engaging in anti-social or unlawful behaviour to leave the designated area.

The dispersal zone covers Highfield Lane, Shaftesbury Avenue, Portswood High Street, and extends down to Thomas Lewis Way.

Police emphasised that while the right to free speech and lawful protest is fully respected, disorderly conduct will not be tolerated.

“Our priority when policing gatherings such as this is public safety,” the force said, adding that officers continue to work closely with protest organisers, the community, and partner organisations.

The dispersal order forms part of a wider policing operation aimed at maintaining safety and preventing disruption during the planned demonstrations.
